What can you expect when consulting a Urologist for Prostate Cancer Screening?

Medical History
Your doctor will ask you about known prostate cancer cases in your family (father, uncle, brother) and which drugs you are currently taking.

International Prostata Symptom-Score (I-PSS)
With the help of this questionnaire your doctor is able to assess objectively your subjective symptoms and graduate your symptoms into mild, moderate and severe.

Digital-rectal examination
Your Urologist palpates the prostate with his finger. He will detect changes in consistency and size. This might not sound  like a lot of fun, but it can be done without causing any pain and is just a quick routine procedure.

Ultrasound and urinary flow rate measures
With the help of these technical checks one is able to have a close look at your urinary bladder and prostate without any pain. You can also measure the flow rate of the urinary stream (in ml/sec).

Measurement of the PSA value

Prostate-specific antigen is produced by prostate cells and is used as one of the components to detect prostate cancer. It needs careful interpretation, but your urologist can help you to use it in the right way
